3 Quick Ways to Beat Stress

In today's society we are under more stress than ever before. The economy, our children and our job security, all play parts to weigh us down under busy lives. Here are five new ways to stop your stress and to get you back on track to a happier life.


1. B vitamins. When are you when you are stressed, your body begins to use up the B. vitamins more, leaving you even more stressed. Lack of B vitamins can cause you to be forgetful, confused and anxious. Simply by taking a B complex supplement you will be able replenish your body stores of this essential vitamin. B vitamins are also very important in producing a pleasure inducing chemical in the brain, called dopamine. Which in turn is necessary to produce GABA, a relaxing hormone. Go for a good quality B-Complex at your local health food store.


2. Smell some lavender. New studies have show the smell of lavender can help calm more than 100 genes that can be overwhelmed by stressful situations. This is why many massage therapists use essential oils such as lavender when giving massages. Try it. If you don't like the smell of lavender, other plants can be substituted, such as jasmine, laurel or even basal. These planets contain a compound called R-linaloo, a substance that gives off that sweet smell. They literally turn off stress genes!


3. Give thanks. Studies at Duke University have shown spending 5 to 10 minutes each day expressing gratitude for all the good things in life can just decrease the stress hormone cortisol up to 22%. You could increase this effect simply by saying your thankful thoughts out loud each day. Expressing gratitude is always one of the best ways to focus on what you would have and not what you do not.
