Good Cholesterol Foods - How to Lower LDL and Increase HDL by Eating Good Cholesterol Foods

cholesterol level

It is generally accepted by doctors that the higher a person's HDL (good cholesterol) measurement and the lower his LDL measurement (bad cholesterol), the better his/her health condition is.

But, what is exactly the normal ideal limit? How high or how low is acceptable? The desirable LDL level is generally considered to be less than 100 mg/dL, while the desirable HDL level is generally considered to be more than 50 mg/dL. Total desired cholesterol level in one's blood should also be kept at less than 200 mg/dL (this is generally referred to by doctors as "borderline high" level). Generally you should try to keep your levels within this range.

Grow Your Penis While You Sleep - Get Those Extra Inches the Natural Way

Did you know that it is possible for your penis to grow even while you sleep? This may seem like a far-fetched idea but it really isn't when you think about it. All you need to do is to apply a little logic and get to grips with the basic science of growth and you will see how this will work.

The best method I found was Natural Enhancement and they brilliant thing about it was that I didn't need to use any patches or creams, or attach any painful extenders to myself. Using natural methods, my manhood grew all throughout the day and while I was asleep to. Here's how it works.

Think back to when you were going through puberty. Do you remember how many growth spurts your penis went through and how often you would wake up to find that you had a spontaneous erection? The reason for this is that at that time you had lots of natural growth hormones and minerals whizzing around your body and these are what caused the growth. As we get older, these mineral get depleted as mother nature steps in to prepare your body for other things too. What happens when these minerals get depleted? The growth stops of course!

3 Rapid Weight Loss Tips

Are you thinking about losing weight? If you are, do you think you should lose a lot in a hurry? While most health professionals say that you should not rely heavily on fast weight loss, usually referenced to as rapid weight loss, there are a number of people who do. If you are interested in losing weight as fast as possible, you may want to continue reading this article.

One of the many ways that you can succeed with rapid weight loss is by reducing your food intake. When reducing your food intake, it is mandatory, to avoid problems, that you only reduce your intake by a small amount. Unfortunately, most people looking to achieve quick weight loss think wrongly that they need to highly restrict their food intake, or even fast, with no food intake. That is not recommended and could be dangerous to your health. The big problem being that once you start eating again, you will almost certainly gain all of your weight back. Also your body may start using your lean muscle for energy and that is certainly not a good thing. You want to lose fat, not muscle.

Health Weight Loss Tips and Risks of Dieting

weight loss

When it comes to weight loss, most people think that dieting would be a good idea. This is no surprise as many recent studies indicate that the average American eat 22% more calories than those of just a generation ago. This is one of the main reasons why obesity is on the rise across America.

But dieting is not without its downside; especially with so many new fad diets promising quick results these days. Many people fail to realize that dieting is a process, they fall for those fad diets that have outrageous claims that could lead to health problems instead. Most fad diets work for a short time and many people would experience a rebound after they stop the diets; which defeat the purpose of weight loss in the first place.

Hand Surgery - Avoiding Major Surgery by Dealing With Hand Injuries the Right Way

hand surgery

Considering how often hands are used, it is important that you keep yours in good shape. Injuries can result in you needing hand surgery, putting you out of commission for quite some time. Even accidents that seem minor can cause major complications, so learning how to care for injuries correctly immediately after they occur is important.

Cuts to the hand might seem routine, but if they become infected, you might need medical care. Even if they don't, you could need care if it is a large cut that causes major blood loss. For any wound, the first thing is to apply pressure to reduce bleeding.

Once the bleeding stops wash away any dirt that might be present and cover it with a bandage or gauze depending on the size of the cut. If there is a nail, hook, or other foreign body in the wound, rather than try to get it out, get to the doctor.

3 Foods You May Think Are Healthy, But Should Stop Eating To Help With Weight Loss

When not considering weight loss, there are few things that are more refreshing to me than eating fresh piping hot corn on the cob, with plenty of butter and salt. It is such a refreshing and healthy tasting treat. What could be wrong with that you might ask?

Well, In America the average adult consumes 67% of their total caloric intake from only 3 foods - corn, soy and wheat. The consumption of these 3 foods should only be about 5 to 10% of our total diet.

This imbalance in our diet is creating massive health problems associated with obesity, and the primary culprit in our diet hindering weight loss is these 3 foods. It's not a surprise that we have also developed so many intolerance's and allergies, specifically to soy and wheat (And gluten intolerance).

Many people feel petrified just on hearing the news of elevated cholesterol levels. But here it needs to be mentioned clearly that all cholesterol are not bad. Cholesterol can be categorized under two separate entities- good cholesterol (HDL) and bad cholesterol (LDL).

LDL levels when heightened can pose health risks in the form of cardiac attacks or blockage of arteries. Bad cholesterol is what prompts the presence of cholesterol inside the body cells. Bad cholesterol should obviously be there inside the body and it should be in proportion to the amount of good cholesterol present. The good cholesterol drive out the excess cholesterol from the body.

The Clinical Part Of Multiple Sclerosis

The Clinical Part Of Multiple Sclerosis

What is MS?

MS is a short term given to a debilitating disease called multiple sclerosis. This disease is very unpredictable and can actually range from benign to something that was highly devastating. This is so because the communication pattern that normally occurs between the brain and the rest of the body is greatly damaged.

According to scientific research, MS is an autoimmune disease. This means that the body's immune system launches an attack against its very own underlying tissues and cells. In multiple sclerosis, the part that is most affected is the myelin.

The myelin

The myelin is a sheath that covers the nerve fibers in order to protect it. Aside from protection, it also acts as an insulator. It is the myelin that is directly attacked in a case of MS.

Importance of Bad Breath Testers

Importance of Bad Breath Testers

For something ordinary, many do not understand fully what bad breath or halitosis is. Or, they may be aware of it, but lack the real information why it occurs. Bad breath is not considered as a disease but this is where the problem lies. Many people don't consider it seriously, so that when it occurs they don't become aware that it has become their source of embarrassment to other people. If you don't want to be affected by the negative things that come with having bad breath, it is important that you are aware of the importance of bad breath testers.

A bad breath tester will not only allow you to learn if you are infected with such condition but will stop you from being the talk of the town because of this disgusting issue. The bad thing about halitosis is it is often impossible to conceal the reactions of the people you are talking with once they got the whiff of its nauseating smell. The reason is simply that, it is nauseating that it is hard for the people not to wince when your breath reaches their nostril. And if you are talking in close distance to someone, it is simply embarrassing and disturbing particularly if you witnessed how they made their face.

Skeptics view on Reiki

Skeptics view on Reiki

Many believe Reiki to be a pseudoscience. Many medical personnel think it is a waste of time. Doctors express concern when people with serious diseases such as heart problems, stroke, and cancer choose Reiki over conventional treatment. The practitioners are playing on the patient's fear and just stealing their money, doing nothing in the process.

Reiki practitioners maintain that while you should still get the treatment your doctor has planned, you can use Reiki as a complement to that therapy. The Reiki community would never advocate causing harm to anyone.

Skeptics view on Reiki

There are also many controversies about the different Reiki schools and how they differ. Some use different symbols. Some use energy healing instead of laying in of hands. Some go through each degree in one year, whereas others can take up to ten years to get to Master.

Pregnancy Tips - Eating to Prevent Heartburn

Pregnancy Tips - Eating to Prevent Heartburn

Heartburn does not just affect those who are high stressed or love their spicy foods. Pregnant women suffer from heartburn too. You will find as your pregnancy progresses that antacids tend to become your best friend. Heartburn has nothing to do with your heart.

It is when the acid from your stomach leaks up into the esophagus. Heartburn is very common during pregnancy. In fact one in four women experience heartburn during their pregnancy usually during the third trimester. The reason is that your baby has grown a tremendous amount and your uterus has moved up and is now putting pressure on your stomach. This crowds the digestive tract and allows acids to travel back up the esophagus. There is an old wives tale that if you have bad heartburn, your baby will have a lot of hair. Of course there is no proof in this but it is a fun thing to believe in.

Prehypertension Boosts Stroke Risk

Prehypertension Boosts Stroke Risk

We’ve long known that high blood pressure is a primary risk factor for stroke, but new research suggests that blood pressure on the high end of normal can be a threat, too. This condition, called prehypertension, is diagnosed when the top blood pressure number (systolic) is between 120 and 139 mmHg and the low number (diastolic) between 80 and 89 mmHg. The new information follows a review of 12 studies that included data on more than 518,000 participants in the United States, Japan, China and India taken from studies that lasted from 2.7 to 32 years. The researchers, from the University of California, San Diego, found that people with prehypertension were 55 percent more likely to have a stroke compared to individuals whose blood pressure was normal. The review also revealed that people younger than 65 with prehypertension had a stroke risk that was 68 percent higher than normal, and that regardless of age those whose blood pressure was in the range of 130 to 139 had a stroke risk 79 percent higher than normal. In the United States, one-third of adults have prehypertension. The study was published online on September 28 in Neurology.

4 Steps to Pretty Summer Feet

4 Steps to Pretty Summer Feet

A "corn" is the layman's term for a thickening and hardening of the skin's surface layer with a deep-seated core or nucleation. These callous growths can cause pain or discomfort when standing, walking or running, and are often the result of wearing shoes that do not fit properly. A corn generally appears wherever there is continuous pressure or friction on the foot. If you have corns, make sure your shoes fit properly and avoid wearing socks or stockings that bind your feet too tightly. To deal with the irritation that corns can cause, try the following:

Use a pumice stone to reduce the thickness of a corn. Soak your feet prior to using it so that the corn is soft when you rub it.

4 Unhealthy Beverages

4 Unhealthy Beverages

Whether you are watching your weight or just want to eat healthier, taking a look at what you drink is key. Empty calories can lurk in all types of beverages - especially these:

Coffee drinks with full-fat dairy, artificial flavorings, and extras such as chocolate sprinkles. These can pack as many calories as a meal. A better option is a plain coffee with soy milk or, better yet, antioxidant-rich green tea.

Sugary cocktails. Whether it’s a margarita or a pina colada, these drinks pack a double dose of calories due to alcohol and sugar - some can top 800 calories in one drink. Better options are a glass of red wine (60-100 calories) or a light beer (about 100 calories).

If You're Pregnant, Eat Chocolate

If You're Pregnant, Eat Chocolate

If You're Pregnant, Eat Chocolate

It could lower your risk of preeclampsia, pregnancy-induced high blood pressure that can threaten the lives of both mother and child. Researchers at Yale asked nearly 1,700 women about their eating habits during pregnancy, including how much chocolate they ate. Those that ate the most chocolate turned out to have the lowest rates of preeclampsia. Eating more than five servings of chocolate a week reduced the risk of preeclampsia by up to 40 percent or more. The researchers credited the chocolate by-product theobromine, (which was seen in the cord blood of more than 1,300 of the women) for the effect. In fact, the higher a woman's theobromine levels, the lower her risk of preeclampsia. In addition, flavonoids - antioxidants in chocolate previously associated with cardiovascular benefits - may have played a role, the investigators said. For the study, they didn't distinguish between the types of chocolate the mothers-to-be consumed, but noted that dark chocolate provides the most theobromine. The researchers cautioned women not to go overboard with chocolate - too much can lead to excess weight gain and all the health problems associated with obesity.

Prenatal and Pregnancy

Prenatal and Pregnancy

Prenatal vitamins are one of the most important vitamins that you take through out your pregnancy. Ideally, you should start taking prenatal vitamins when you are trying to conceive a baby. By taking prenatal while you are trying to conceive, you are preparing your body for the challenging task that lies ahead. Some experts believe that taking prenatal before you are pregnant might actually reduce your risk of a miscarriage after you become pregnant.

Taking prenatal before pregnancy is not always possible for some people, but taking them during pregnancy is essential. Prenatal vitamins contain one of the most important nutrients that a new mother needs and that are folic acid or folate. By taking in extra folic acid, you lower your chances of your baby being born with an incomplete spinal column which is known as spina bifida. In order for your baby to be protected, it is imperative that folic acid is taken in the first four weeks of fetal development.

Facts About Vitamin A

Facts About Vitamin A

"Vitamin A" is the blanket term for retinoids, biologically active compounds that occur naturally in both plant and animal tissues. It is important for many functions, including these facts about vitamin A:

Supporting bone growth, reproduction and immune system health

Helping the skin and mucous membranes repel bacteria and viruses more effectively

Promoting healthy vision

Slowing declining retinal function in people with retinitis pigmentosa

Vitamin A is fat soluble, and has potential for toxicity if supplementing with retinols. The best natural food sources of vitamin A are their pre-cursors, the carotenoids, found in fruits and vegetables, including carrots, spinach, kale, butternut squash, cantaloupe, mangoes, pumpkins and sweet potatoes. In supplement form, I recommend 15,000 IU of mixed carotenoids daily. Look for products that contain beta-carotene, alpha-carotene, lycopene, astaxanthin, lutein and zeaxanthin as part of an antioxidant formula.
